Beards a-poppin!
by neat blue dog ini live in a pretty conservative area of the united states, and in the past two decades i can remember 2, that's right, two instances of seeing a jw with a beard in my area.
(not counting myself at times, 😜, and i'm obviously not counting bearded visitors dressed in casual clothes).. however at this year's convention, i saw about a dozen bearded jws .
this is like an explosion where i live.

"A little leaven ferments the whole batch of dough". A way to make witnesses think!?
by stuckinarut2 inhow can we briefly make a calm, dignified point to witnesses we care about such as family or friends?
how can we make them think?.
here are a couple of well known scriptures: (from the revised new world translation.

I wish there was some kind of magic phrase/line of reasoning that universally disables the trance of all Witnesses when presented with that statement. "Shallow Hal wants a gal...". Boom. You've been exposed, WT, you fat f*cks:

As @stuckinarut2 put it, "nothing creepy about that at all!" Two old guys staring at a bunch of teenage girls in mini skirts playing netball. This is gross on a whole other level.

@tepidpoultry Our Kingdom Hall has five screens. Two at the front, two suspended from the ceiling midway in the hall, and one in the auxiliary/second school. Total saturation for the audience. No escaping the cult propaganda. Only a matter of time before we get mini-screens drilled into the back of each cubical door in the restrooms.

Are you a Christian Who Accepts Evolution?
by cofty inif you identify as a christian but you have accepted that the diversity of life - including humans - resulted from a process of biological evolution could you add your name please?.
just to be clear i am referring to the fact that our physical lineage could literally be traced back all the way to non-human species.. if you like maybe you could comment on why you see not conflict between evolution and your christian faith.. there is a tendency to conflate evolution with atheism.
it would be good to show that this is not the case..

@pseudoxristos Exactly right. You'd have to believe that for over 100,000 years, heaven looked down with indifference, watching homo sapiens flounder, suffering the most cruel existence (expectation of life: 25 years. Infant mortality: rife. Micro organism diseases: terrifying. Primary cause of death: teeth. Earthquakes and volcanoes: extraordinarily common. Fights over land, territory, food, and women: beyond frightening). And for 98,000 years, heaven remained cold and detached. And then, around 4,000 years ago, in really barbaric, backward, illiterate parts of the Middle East (not in China, by the way, where people could read or think or do science), heaven decides "We can't let this go on. We better intervene." And what better way to do so than via a human sacrifice and plagues and mass murder. Real logical thinking.

chasing me for a report
by Phoebe ini'm fairly new on here and i've told a lot of my story but to recap, after 60 odd years i've stopped going to the meetings.
my husband had already left the truth years ago and my children didn't become jws.(phew!).
i had a horrendous childhood growing up as a witness which included sexual assault by a close relative, also a jw.

@Phoebe: "...when the bell has rung, how can you un-ring it?" Yep... there's no way you can Jehovah's Unwitness what you've seen and learned.

Do you think at the threat of assassination most religious leaders would renounce their beliefs ?
by Chook inplenty of priests been killed , but i wonder if big tony and his smiley mate would sign the paper work..

No threat of assassination, just the opportunity to give a defense for Jehovah before the courts... Check point number eight:

In a convention once, the speaker described Satan's system as "ambulance chasers" - like greedy lawyers hot in the pursuit of someone's personal tragedy so they can be exploited in that vulnerable state. From the same platform, that very speaker then spoke about why we need to persist in the preaching work, because "you never know when someone has had a death in the family, is going through a divorce, has lost their job, or is in a custody battle." I guess Satan's tactics are good enough for WT, and we can see this study article clearly capitalizing on the misfortunes of these refugees.

Are JWs "mind trained" to be habitual liars?
by nonjwspouse ini don't mean overly obvious, or otherwise meaning to cause harm, but taught to lie for the purpose of avoidance.
this type of lying can be pervasive in areas of life that are not just to avoid discussions with people who have questions about the jw, etc.
my husband will lie/be deceitful about the silliest, simple things.
-
Wake Me Up Before You Jo-Ho
@nonjwspouse I'm the last person to give advice on successful relationships, but from reading your comment just above, I can say objectively that this man hasn't done much to earn this level of patience, love and support from you. I may be oversimplifying things here, but you seem to be expending a lot of yourself to a man who doesn't deem you worthy for the most basic transparency on his part. May I ask if there is anything about him that you DO love and view as valuable enough to continue salvaging this marriage?
